As a parent, I constantly overthink about my kids. Am I doing the right things? Are they learning enough? Are they healthy enough? Are they hitting all the right milestones? Am I raising a kind and helpful member of society? Am I teaching them enough about the Bible? Do they genuinely know and love God?
My mind can go on for days and drag my heart right behind it. Worry, stress, fear.
The biggest thing I’ve learned as a mom: trust God with them. He loves them more than I ever could. So, the best thing I can do for them? Pray.
It’s not always easy to know what to pray or even have the brainpower to come up with one. So, I put together some scriptures to pray over your children — prayers included!
1. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 ESV
Abba Father, I pray that each of my children see themselves in your image. That they see themselves as a creation, woven in my womb, before I even knew it, in your image, can live their lives confident that they are a reflection of you, and dedicated to live a righteous life that honors that.
2. “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14 ESV
Lord, I pray that (your child’s name) knows in depths of their heart that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and that it flows from their heart into all they do.
3. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 ESV
God, I pray over the gifts that you’ve created in (your child’s name). I pray that you will reveal these gifts to him/her and he/she will pursue all the things you’ve set his/her heart on fire for.
4. “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” 1 Cor 12:7 NLT
Thank you, Lord, for the community you’ve given (your child’s name); each and every classmate, neighbor, and friend. I pray that (your child’s name) won’t look around and compare the gifts that you’ve created them with or envy the gifts of others, but that (your child’s name) will bloom in the gifts you’ve given him/her and use it to help others.
5. “And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matt 22:39 NIV
I pray, Father, that you will give (your child’s name) eyes to see everyone around him/her through your eyes; as a child of God created in your image. I pray that he/she loves with an overflow of your love that’s rooted in his/her heart.
These verses are the heart and foundation of our books, You Were Created and You Are Gifted. They teach the truth of God’s word through Justice and her teacher, Ms. DoRight.
You can pray these individually or here’s a complete prayer!
God, thank you for my beautiful child(ren). Each of them is truly a gift. I pray that (your child’s name) sees him/herself in your image; that he/she sees him/herself as a creation, woven in my womb, before I even knew it, in your image, can live their life confident that they are a reflection of you, and dedicated to live a righteous life that honors that.
